About Pirc Defense

The Pirc (and its twin, the Modern) hands White the center on move one — then spends the middlegame dynamiting it. ...c5 and ...e5 breaks against the d4/e4 pawns are the theme; the Austrian Attack (f3, g4 pawn storm) is White's violent answer.
